Code Of Behaviour - Coaches

CODES OF BEHAVIOUR- COACHES

Premier Sports League’s Code of Behaviour promotes the essential elements of character building and ethics in sports as embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship. The highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects these principles.

Our COACHES Agree:

  1. To respect and maintain the privacy, confidentiality, dignity and worth of all individuals

  2. That sports are opportunities for youth to have fun and be  encouraged, acknowledge for their efforts, appreciated their achievements and helped in their personally development so they will ensure time is invested to serve the youth and teach them fundamentals of sport and age appropriate tactics/ strategies of  our sports

  3. Opposing teams and spectators are honoured guests and should be respected

  4. The best effort a youth can bring (that day) should be sought and not measured against the efforts or successes of their teammates

  5. Officials and opponents should be treated and regarded as honest in their intentions

  6. Winning is desirable but ‘winning at any cost’ defeats the purpose of the sport (the sport is second philosophy)

  7. Decisions are made on what is the greatest good for the greatest number of players

  8. In sports, as in life, the dignity, care, respect and treatment unto others should be such that you would expect the same done to them

  9. The rules of sport should be regarded as mutual agreements for safety, fairness and respect for all and that the spirit of those rules no one should try to evade or break

  10. Officials’ decisions should be accepted without recourse in the form of lashing out, getting angry, personally/verbally attacking the officials, negatively commenting/ gesturing, speaking harshly of officials to players or seeking retribution, no matter how unfair their decisions may seem

  11. Losing is not easy but can be an opportunity for great learning, particularly when the team has given its best efforts.  Looking for that teaching moment is important

  12. Should the need arise that they have to discipline a player, they will follow a process that is fair and consistent to all players and is well communicated so they clearly understand
    (i.e. The 1, 2, 3 Method)

  13. Alternative actions should be taken to not to run up the score when our team is well ahead. Instead, this should present an opportunity to try new lines, plays and skills with player while not not appearing to make the other team look or feel incompetent
( i.e. dramatic celebrations after a goal when the score spread is large)

  14. When the game is over, players should act (or be coached) to respect the other teams players, all coaches, officials and be grateful to the staff and volunteers (and their parents) and the sport that provided them this experience in their life
