Code Of Behaviour - Officials

CODES OF BEHAVIOUR- OFFICIALS

Premier Sports League’s Code of Behaviour promotes the essential elements of character building and ethics in sports as embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship. The highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects these principles.

Our OFFICIALS agree:

  1. They will respect and maintain the privacy, confidentiality, dignity and worth of all individuals

  2. They will officiate the sport for the good benefits that come with officiating any sport

  3. To conduct themselves in such a manner so as to respect and appreciate the effort that their supporting officials (including timekeepers, scorekeepers etc.) have given on that day and acknowledge them for their contribution

  4. To be humble when they make an incorrect decision and seek advice from peer officials, supervisors and mentors so as to take advantage of this learning moment in order to better their skills and craft

  5. To be fair and honest always, no matter what, in all their decisions even if it affects the final outcome

  6. Obey and consistently apply the rules of the sport and understand that the rules are there, as are the officials, to ensure the sport is safe, fair and respectful for everyone

  7. To accept feedback from coaches during the game with good grace even if they think differently, and to ensure that if there is a disagreement that they do not make any derogatory comments about the coaches and players, their officiating team or publicly that are personal in nature or incite disrespect or anger

  8. That the players and coaches are truly conducting themselves with honesty during their play

  9. That they will conduct themselves with honour and dignity, on and off the playing court, so as not to diminish the value of sportsmanship of themselves, their officiating team and the sport

  10. To honestly and wholeheartedly applaud the efforts of the players, all coaches regardless of the outcome and to fully participate with respect and kindness in any sport specific rituals and promote good sportsmanship (i.e. hand shake, presentations)

  11. They will work for the common good of the sport and not put their personal needs or ego ahead of what is best for the game play at hand and, when possible, decrease their influence so that the game play can increase and outcome be determined by the players efforts

  12.  That they will give their best effort to ensure their game management application of rules of play are fair, consistent, up to the standards required and to communicate well throughout the entire game

  13. To present themselves, including appearance, conduct and communication, in such a manner as not to look unprofessional, disrespect, embarrass, downplay, mock or diminish the sport nor the value that the players, coaches, conveners, parents, spectators, volunteers and franchise owners contribute to building and respectful youth sports program in their community

  14. They will endeavour to master their officiating so that I can deliver the best quality product on the playing court for both teams

  15. To abide by all the policies, guidelines, rules & regulations set out by Premier Sports Leagues

  16. To be grateful to the operators, conveners, coaches, players, volunteers, parents, spectators for providing them a means to officiate in a respectful environment
